The Lost Wax Company creates and curates products inspired by memory, history, place, and story. Our assortment includes candles, home fragrance, soaps, gifts, seasonal goods, and unexpected finds chosen for their character as much as their function.

Based in Norfolk’s Ghent neighborhood, The Lost Wax brings together retail, on-site production, events, tea, and interactive experiences in a setting designed to encourage curiosity and discovery.

At the heart of the company is the belief that fragrance has an unusual power to unlock memory — an idea expressed in our motto, Aroma Clavis Memoriæ: Fragrance is the key to memory.

Our Founder & Creative Director

The Lost Wax Company was founded by Jay Thomson, a longtime retailer and creative director whose career includes more than 25 years in retail and 14 years in museum retail leadership and product development.

That experience shaped The Lost Wax Company’s approach from the beginning: products are chosen not simply for what they are, but for the stories, memories, and associations they carry.

Jay oversees the company’s fragrance development, packaging, merchandising, retail environment, events, and interactive experiences.
